We pioneer merging science with art creating fine jewellery of the future: from gemstones cultivated in a laboratory to natural pearls raised by people and exotic ﬁsh that regenerate coral reefs and ocean ecosystems in the process; to re-inventing precious metals with recycled and reﬁned aluminium from soda cans - an inspiring story of Waste to Wonder that challenges the very concept of preciousness and luxury through creativity and innovation; to diamonds mined from the sky with atmospheric carbon-dioxide capture technology. Mermaid’s Tale - A Collection Inspired by the Ocean, Made with Ocean Waste Metals, Pledged to Support Ocean Ecosystems.

For every creation sold, we pledge to plant 100 Mangrove SeaTrees in the Ocean via The SeaTrees Project. So, 1 AC Mermaids Tale jewel purchased = 100 mangrove trees planted = 100 tonnes CO₂ stored. Our AC Ocean Initiative alone has the capacity to remove 13,500+ tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere since 2021 to date.

BLOOMS is the first of its kind fine jewellery collection featuring refined aluminium from recycled drink cans as the base metal, paired with scintillating laboratory-grown and created gemstones in vivid hues to create a dramatic, unusual and sculptural garden of blossoming blooms. A tale from trash to treasures, it is our most exciting and innovative collection yet.

Setting a new standard in Eco-Pearl Farming, we collaborated with 3rd generation eco-pearl farmers in French Polynesia to harvest natural Tahitian pearls through a slow regenerative process that has not only restored local fish populations including near-extinct species, but also regenerated coral reefs and the marine ecosystem surrounding the atoll.

Kamoka Pearl Farm produces pearls from oysters grown in the nutrient-rich lagoon of Ahe Atoll, 300 miles northeast of Tahiti. We are known for adhering to the strictest levels of sustainable farming in the pearl world and we've pioneered many eco-farming techniques that have not only helped the environment, but also improved the quality of our pearls.

In 2020/21, we launched the world’s first fully traceable and responsible natural artisanal mined gemstone collection with Moyo Gems, using the Everledger blockchain technology to trace back to the individual miner her/himself where they are guaranteed to receive 90-95% of the export price of each stone, with proceeds re-invested back into local communities to fund education, social and community infrastructure support powered by the international non-profit organisation Pact and the GIA.

Moyo Gems is a responsible miner-to-market gemstone collaboration born in East Africa. They are working with the women artisanal gem miners in Tanzania and Kenya to track rubies, sapphires, tourmaline, garnets, citrines, and amethysts.

We are excited to collaborate with Diamond Foundry, the leading producer of above-ground, certified diamonds in California, U.S.A. that are laboratory-grown to the exacting optical and gemological composition and structure as natural mined diamonds, with a zero carbon footprint.

ETHICAL SUSTAINABILITY

Our laboratory-grown gemstones are responsibly sourced without the untraceable provenance and destructive use of land mining. Every creation is carefully and lovingly hand-crafted by skilled artisans at the atelier, a truly slow and considered process honouring centuries-old craftsmanship with new innovative ideas. Anabela also work with individual artisans personally around the world for special projects. Our natural gemstones are a part of Atelier Future Fully Traceable & Ethical colour gemstone collection via the Moyo Gems Project using blockchain technology, with every stone traced back to the individual miner her/himself where they also receive 90-95% of the export price of each stone, with education, social and community infrastructure support powered by the international non-profit organisation Pact and the GIA.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

We are Reducing environmental harm by preserving natural resources and replacing processes that lead to pollution or harmful by-products. We use water reduction, efficient energy usage, carbon reduction and are offsetting purchases to reduce our environmental impact. Our Flagship London Boutique and Atelier are operated on 100% renewable energy. Our domestic & international shipping packaging is plastic free and 100% recyclable & biodegradable. We contribute to carbon negative off-set with every online purchase. In partnership with the Sea-trees project we plant 100 Mangrove SeaTrees in the Ocean via The SeaTrees Project with every purchase thus storing 100 tonnes CO2.

CIRCULAR INNOVATIONS

We support responsible mining by using only conflict-free resources for gold, diamonds, stones, and metals. 100% of our creations are crafted with responsibly sourced, recycled and laboratory-grown materials. As a brand we adhere to fair trade and labour regulations. We pioneer refined and recycled aluminium from soda cans into our signature creations. We champion laboratory-grown and created gemstones with innovative technology. We re-purpose gemstones from antique and pre-loved jewels into new creations. We re-invented PVD (physical vapour deposition) process to colour aluminium borrowed from the auto-mobile industry. We utilise 80% of recycled precious metals in our main collections, with the exclusion of findings, with plans to achieve 100% by 2025.

SOCIAL & ECONOMICAL SUSTAINABILITY

Anabela Chan is an independently-founded business with organic growth driven by re-investment of profits alone.Giving back is central to what we do - from supporting up to 10 individual charities worldwide every year since year 1 of establishing Anabela Chan Joaillerie in 2014, to educational projects for the future via talks, workshops and public initiatives. We support local and global communities with practices that financially stimulate the economy, provide employment & educational opportunities, preserve cultural crafts & artistry, and adhere to fair trade principles. We support local impact initiatives to give back to the community outside the production. 80% of our production is sourced locally in the United Kingdom.
